About Us

Rutland Barrington as Sir Despard
Murgatroyd

Why Make It So?
In 1887, Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera Ruddigore opened at the Savoy Theatre in London. One very popular phrase which came from the opera was Despard Murgatroyd’s line to comfort his new wife Margaret (who was as mad as we three), ‘Please Margaret, Basingstoke!’ She would reply ‘Basingstoke it is’ and Despard would, in a calm voice utter…
‘then make it so’
Just over 100 years later an actor with a love of Gilbert and Sullivan was making his own personal mark on the character of Jean-Luc Picard, Captain of the Star Ship ‘Enterprise’ needing a catchphrase of his own. Patrick Stewart ‘the actor’ came up with a line from one of his favourite Gilbert and Sullivan operas and the rest, as they say, is history repeated!
So why should we choose this line as the company name?
Trevor Nicholls is a Treker,
Stephen Holroyd is a Gilbert and Sullivan fanatic,
and Paul Arden-Griffith will do anything for a quiet life (as long as we are all working hard!)
So Make It So it is!
What else have we done, who are these people and what can we do for you?
